Joie Haydel, M.S.

Clinical Assessor

Joie (she/her) is currently a 4th-year doctoral (PsyD) candidate at the University of La Verne. She is working with UCLA CAPPS as a graduate student assessor and extern. Joie completed her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Clinical Psychology with a minor in Law and Society at the University of California San Diego and her Master of Science (MS) in Psychology at the University of La Verne. Joie is passionate about working with system-impacted or justice-involved individuals with serious mental illness and substance abuse and is dedicated to supporting individuals and families through navigating such mental health concerns.

 

Her previous clinical experiences include community mental health substance use treatment at Tarzana Treatment Centers and forensic outpatient treatment at Gateways/Los Angeles County Conditional Release Program. Joie’s research experience covers themes including, but not limited to, serious mental illness, incarceration, complex trauma, interpersonal relationships, and maternal mental health. Her current research focuses on the impact of ambiguous loss on resilience and hope among individuals who have experienced the military deployment or incarceration of a parent.
